WAEC official alleges irregularities and glitches in 2026 examination results
Olanrewaju Fadehan, Head of Examinations at the West African Examinations Council office in Anambra, has alleged irregularities and glitches in the recently released 2026 WAEC results for school candidates. Fadehan claims that candidates who took the computer-based version of the examination were particularly affected, noting issues around the results' release, which was initially expected between August 3 and 5, 2026. He stated that last-minute adjustments affected computer-based examination candidates, especially in subjects like Mathematics, English, and Igbo. Fadehan also expressed concern over reports of poor performance in Igbo by candidates from the South-East. He further alleged that schools investing in computer-based examination facilities were negatively impacted, with some spending over N60m to set up these facilities. Additionally, Fadehan claimed some candidates lacked appropriate calculators during the examination, contributing to poor performance in calculation-based subjects. He stated he raised these concerns with relevant authorities, including the WAEC Board, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examining Bodies, and the Minister of Education, but was instead subjected to disciplinary proceedings and interdiction. Fadehan called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the cause of candidate failures, particularly those who chose the computer-based WAEC.
