Atiku Abubakar urges Federal Government to act on Sokoto killings, move beyond condolences
Former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to take decisive action following the killing of 32 people in Ungushi community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. In a statement on Monday, Atiku condemned the killings, highlighting them as evidence of worsening insecurity in Nigeria. He expressed sympathy for the bereaved families and residents of Sokoto State. Atiku emphasized that government officials' condolences are no longer sufficient given the recurring attacks. He questioned how many more Nigerians must die before the government prioritizes human life protection. He warned against the government becoming comfortable with issuing statements after massacres without implementing effective protective measures. Atiku urged the Federal Government to enhance intelligence gathering, secure vulnerable communities, and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killings. He reiterated that the government's primary duty is to protect citizens' lives and property, stating that Nigerians should not continue to bury their loved ones while security providers offer excuses. Atiku concluded by praying for peace in Sokoto State and across the country, urging urgent government action to prevent further loss of life.
