Chad's military condemns new territorial violation from Sudan after cross-border aerial bombardment
The Chadian army has condemned a new violation of its national territory following aerial bombardments reported in the Ennedi Est province, bordering Sudan. Brigadier General Chanane Issackha Ackeikh stated that bombardments occurred on the evening of Thursday, August 20, near the Chadian-Sudanese border in the Mourdi department. Chadian military authorities dispatched aerial and ground resources on Friday, August 21, to verify the facts. Initial findings indicated the presence of aircraft and drones believed to belong to the Sudanese Armed Forces or their supporters. The Chadian General Staff reported that these aircraft pursued and bombed a column of vehicles, continuing the pursuit over 100 kilometers into Chadian territory. No Chadian casualties were reported. N'Djamena has issued a strong warning to the belligerents in the Sudanese conflict against extending hostilities beyond Sudanese borders. The Chadian defense and security forces are maintaining the highest alert level to respond to any threats. This alert comes amid a tense regional context, with Sudan embroiled in a war since April 2023, leading to a massive displacement of populations into neighboring countries, including Chad, which shares a 1,000 km border with Sudan and hosts hundreds of thousands of refugees.
