Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Ma茂ga visits Algeria to revive bilateral cooperation
Malian Prime Minister, Major General Abdoulaye Ma茂ga, is on a working visit to Algeria at the invitation of his counterpart, Sifi Ghrieb. This visit, reported on Monday, August 24, 2026, by Maliweb, aims to renew dialogue and consolidate cooperation between Bamako and Algiers. Major General Ma茂ga is carrying a message from the President of the Transition, General Assimi Go茂ta, and is expected to be received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The visit follows a telephone conversation between authorities of both countries on August 9, 2026, initiated by Algeria. Both states have expressed a desire to prioritize dialogue, consultation, and cooperation to strengthen their bilateral relations. In Algiers, Major General Abdoulaye Ma茂ga will also hold working sessions with Sifi Ghrieb to discuss consolidating cooperation in common interest areas and strengthening good neighborly relations. This initiative comes after Bamako and Algiers recently announced several rapprochement measures, including the return of their respective ambassadors and the reopening of their airspaces. Malian authorities describe this as a commitment to direct, regular, and constructive dialogue based on mutual respect, trust, non-interference, and the preservation of each country's interests. The relations between Mali and Algeria are built on historical, geographical, and human ties, with Mali recalling its support for the Algerian people's liberation struggle as a foundation of their fraternity.
