Ezekwesili reaffirms support for Obi ahead of 2027 election
Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has reiterated her support for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, for the upcoming 2027 election. Ezekwesili, who also served as a former vice president for the World Bank's Africa region, co-founder of the BringBackOurGirls movement, and founder of the School of Politics, Policy and Governance, stated her continued backing for Obi based on the same leadership criteria she used in the 2023 election. She emphasized that Obi would still rank higher than other candidates. However, Ezekwesili cautioned against making Obi or any other candidate the sole focus of discussions about Nigeria's future, stressing the importance of addressing national governance, human dignity, and the failures of the political system. She lamented the devaluation of human life in the country and urged Nigerians to vote for themselves by choosing capable leaders. Ezekwesili challenged the current "design" of the country, stating it has not worked and needs to be rewritten, encouraging capable Nigerians to contest political offices at all levels.
