Niger State and UNICEF launch campaign to combat maternal and infant diseases

The initiative, which was flagged off in Minna, the state capital, encourages mothers and caregivers to utilize available government health services. Volunteers have been recruited to act as community mobilizers, bridging the gap between healthcare facilities and families. Dr. Mustapha Alheri, Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, emphasized the importance of the campaign, particularly for pregnant women who do not attend antenatal care and for ensuring children receive immunizations.

The program, supported by the United States government, includes a two-day orientation for 40 women and four supervisors from four wards, many of whom are retired health workers. These volunteers are trained in routine immunization, antenatal care, hygiene practices, and community health promotion to equip women with the knowledge and skills for promoting positive health behaviors.
