NHIA forces Akim Oda Government Hospital to refund over GH¢300,000 for illegal charges

This action follows an extensive audit that uncovered fraud and service abuse, triggered by a whistleblower's tip-off. Abdul Karim Naatogmah of the NHIA Corporate Affairs Directorate stated that the Authority's aggressive pursuit of illegal charges in hospitals led to this punitive measure. He also noted that persistent extortions and illegal charges at credentialed hospitals have eroded public trust in the National Health Insurance Scheme, leading to reduced membership renewals and discouraging new enrolments.

In response, the NHIA management held an emergency meeting, resulting in the suspension of three pharmaceutical companies.
