New GECOL Chairman Marash pledges end to Libya's power cuts within 10-15 days

During a meeting with the Municipality of Sug Il Juma, Marash stated that new units are being integrated into the national grid, expressing high confidence in an improved situation across Libya. He emphasized that fair load-shedding would require a computerized system, as manual implementation is impossible. Additionally, officials from GECOL confirmed that the South Tripoli power station is nearing commissioning, expected to enhance grid stability, though a precise launch date was not provided.

Libya has faced an acute electricity crisis since mid-June, characterized by frequent power cuts that have led to violent demonstrations, road blockades, and attacks on GECOL offices. These disruptions have also caused telecommunications interruptions, increased demand and prices for diesel, bread shortages, industrial production losses, and clinic closures, at times threatening the stability of the Tripoli-based Aldabaiba government. The appointment of Al-Marash is seen as the government's response to this ongoing crisis.
