Atiku Abubakar accuses Olusegun Obasanjo of sustained campaign of lies and deceit
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, through his Media Adviser Paul Ibe, has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of a 20-year campaign of "lies, political manipulation and orchestrated deceit." This accusation comes in response to Obasanjo's recent claim that Atiku mobilized the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na鈥橝bba, to remove him from office between 1999 and 2007. Ibe stated that Obasanjo's allegations against Atiku often resurface during election cycles. He highlighted that Na鈥橝bba, who passed away in 2023, cannot respond to the claim, calling it malicious. Ibe cited former Chief Whip Abubakar Bwari, who contradicted Obasanjo's account, stating Na鈥橝bba never sought Obasanjo鈥檚 removal and that Atiku acted as an emissary for the former president. The Atiku camp also challenged the narrative surrounding the 2003 presidential election, citing a video where former Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu stated Atiku knelt before PDP governors to secure their support for Obasanjo鈥檚 re-election, contradicting claims that Obasanjo was forced to kneel before Atiku. Ibe also revisited the Petroleum Technology Development Fund PTDF investigation before the 2007 presidential election, which Atiku maintained was politically motivated due to his opposition to Obasanjo鈥檚 third-term bid.
