NDLEA intercepts 1.63 million tramadol pills in cross-border operation, arrests syndicate members

This operation followed an earlier seizure of 558,900 tramadol pills from a truck using the same route. According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, one trailer was intercepted on July 2 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, heading to Kano, where 853,000 tramadol pills were found and the 22-year-old driver, Jabir Kabiru, was arrested. A second trailer was intercepted on the same expressway on July 4, yielding 777,000 tramadol pills and leading to the arrest of its 22-year-old driver, Muhammed Nuhu.

Investigations revealed that these consignments, along with one intercepted on June 21, belonged to the same syndicate. In other operations, NDLEA operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, intercepted two consignments of Canadian Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, weighing 4.70 kilograms, arriving from Canada. Cargo agents Ali Samson and Orimolade Oluwagbenga, along with Edeh Stanislus and the shipment's owner, Chioma Nneka Mokeme, were arrested in connection with these seizures.

In Rivers State, 80-year-old Chika Ugwoji was arrested on July 14 with 800 grams of skunk. In Edo State, a couple, Christian Chukwuka and Nwanneka Christian, were arrested during a raid that seized 219.5kg of cannabis sativa and 192.67kg
