Former ambassador Dunaiski urges president to clarify Auasblick land acquisition
Former ambassador Pius Dunaiski has called on president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to explain her attempt to acquire prime municipal land at Auasblick, emphasizing the need for transparency to maintain public confidence. Dunaiski stated on social media that the controversy surrounding the land application requires calm scrutiny. The Namibian reported that the president, in her private capacity, applied for six municipal erven totaling about 1.8 hectares, including residential and business-zoned properties. The applications followed a security breach at State House, which Dunaiski described as a serious security failure. However, he noted that security concerns do not answer fundamental questions about the land's extent and intended use. Dunaiski questioned why presidential security would require such a substantial tract of prime municipal land and sought clarity on what would be built, its purpose security buffer, presidential residence, or retirement accommodation, and who would own, develop, and finance it. He stressed these are reasonable questions in a constitutional democracy. The City of Windhoek has since removed land matters from its agenda. Dunaiski believes the president should use this opportunity to explain the application's rationale and dispel speculation about political privilege, hidden commercial interests, or future property development, stating that Namibians deserve to know.
