Bank Windhoek donates N$4 million to Cancer Association of Namibia for pediatric cancer support

The funds are specifically aimed at supporting children battling cancer. Bank Windhoek managing director James Chapman emphasized that the annual project goes beyond fundraising, focusing on community support and acknowledging the human stories behind each diagnosis. This year's campaign, themed 'Equal Hope', directed resources towards pediatric cancer nationwide.

CAN figures indicate approximately 136 new childhood cancer cases annually in Namibia since 2013, with nearly 60% of pediatric cases treated at Windhoek Central Hospital between 2011 and 2020 involving children under five. CAN chief executive Rolf Hansen highlighted the increasing global trend of childhood cancer and the critical need for early detection and local support. A significant portion of the donated funds will support CAN's Children Fighting Cancer in Namibia programme, which assists young patients and their families.

Hansen noted Namibia's advantage over some regional neighbors due to state health facilities providing basic cancer treatment and the country's focus on cancer awareness, education, and screening programs.
