Namibian artist and doctor La-Toya 'Lioness' Hamutenya reflects on balancing music and medicine

She noted that early in her career, she was often told to choose between the two fields. Lioness explained that pursuing both simultaneously required "double the work," leading to sleepless nights and constant pressure, which she navigated through resilience. A significant turning point was the release of her album 'If Not In This Life' and becoming a mother.

She views motherhood not as an obstacle but as a catalyst that strengthened her resolve, advising others to embrace life's transitional stages. Before stepping back from commercial music, Lioness achieved a career highlight with the hit 'Omapiyano,' a collaboration with Gazza, whose music video garnered over a million YouTube views and earned her the Icon to Africa award. These achievements reinforced her belief in patience for success.

She decided to reduce her commercial music output due to the physical demands of her previous pace. While she continues to record in her home studio, she is undecided about future releases but remains open to selected creative projects, including collaborations, live performances, fashion, philanthropy, and songwriting for other artists. Currently, her focus has shifted to raising her family and practicing medicine, engaging with the creative industry on her own terms.
