
Equinor acquires stake in Namibian Orange Basin oil exploration
Norwegian state oil company Equinor has entered Namibia's petroleum sector by acquiring a 17.4% stake in Chevron's petroleum exploration licence 90 in the Orange Basin. Equinor exploration executive vice president Philippe Mathieu stated that this transaction aligns with the company's strategy to strengthen its international portfolio and that Namibia is a promising basin. The licence is located near the Venus and Mopane oil discoveries. Harmattan Energy Limited, Chevron's subsidiary in Namibia, holds 52.5% of the licence, with QatarEnergy holding 27.5%, Trago Energy 10%, and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia 10%.
