Namibia introduces five-year investor permits to attract foreign businesses

This new employment permit allows investors to conduct business in Namibia for up to five years, a significant increase from the standard two-year permits. The longer validity aims to provide greater certainty for investors and support long-term business planning. The permit also functions as work authorization.

This initiative is expected to boost foreign direct investment, economic growth, industrialization, and employment. Eligibility is restricted to investors whose status is confirmed by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board NIPDB. Applications must be submitted manually through the NIPDB, which will conduct an economic evaluation and impact assessment before forwarding them to the chief of immigration.

Approved applicants will pay a fee of N$2,600. This reform underscores the government's commitment to enhancing the investment environment and reducing administrative barriers.
