Former High Court Judge Joseph Mutava's death: autopsy indicates heart attack, family requests toxicology tests
Former High Court Judge Joseph Mutava, husband of Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu, died on the night of August 21, 2026, after a sudden illness. A postmortem conducted on Monday indicated that Mutava died of a heart attack. However, MP Jessica Mbalu has requested further toxicology tests to rule out poisoning or other contributing factors, stating, "I have asked for a toxicology test to find closure." According to the family, Mutava had spent the evening at a bar in Kibwezi, watching a football match, and was brought home by a designated driver. He walked into the sitting room unaided before his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was rushed to Othrofi Hospital in Makindu Township, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains were then transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi. The family is awaiting toxicology results before concluding the matter due to the sudden nature of his death.
