Lawmaker and lawyers criticize Atiku over renewed focus on Tinubu's credentials

Their criticism stems from Abubakar's renewed scrutiny of President Bola Tinubu’s United States record, academic qualifications, and National Youth Service Corps credentials. Dr. Wale Ahmed, representing Agege Federal Constituency, and the group known as The Progressive Counsel, both issued separate statements on Wednesday, describing Abubakar's actions as distractions from pressing national issues. Ahmed highlighted Abubakar's fresh legal challenge in the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking Tinubu’s disqualification for the 2027 presidential election due to alleged irregularities with his NYSC certificate.

Ahmed emphasized that these allegations are still subject to judicial determination and should not be treated as established facts. He urged politicians to focus on policy debates and solutions to Nigeria's challenges, such as the economy, insecurity, infrastructure, and unemployment, rather than repeatedly litigating the same allegations. Ahmed also differentiated between legitimate scrutiny and political obsession, and advised Abubakar to consider the current political arrangement, suggesting the presidency should remain in the South for an eight-year tenure.

The Progressive Counsel criticized Abubakar's request to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation for records
