Morocco at the heart of a new support program funded by the EU and Germany
The German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ and the International Trade Centre ITC have launched a call for applications for a support program targeting high-growth digital trade platforms in the Middle East and North Africa MENA region. This initiative, co-financed by the European Union EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ, and implemented by GIZ in partnership with ITC, aims to bolster the development, innovation, and expansion of digital platforms in Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia into regional and European markets. The program, titled "Digital Trade and E-commerce in the MENA Region," seeks to enhance commercial opportunities and create decent jobs. Selected platforms will receive tailored support across three main areas: technical assistance, including platform upgrades, system integration, and interoperability improvements; governance and compliance, covering regulatory adherence, preparation for the EU's General Data Protection Regulation GDPR, and strengthening legal frameworks; and growth support, encompassing digital marketing, integration of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises MSMEs, and inclusive growth strategies. Eligible platforms must be legally registered or licensed in one of the four target countries, demonstrate growth over the past year, and have established cross-border activity or a clear expansion plan.
