Moroccan automotive market grows 14.2% by end of August 2026

This growth includes a 13.5% rise in passenger car registrations, totaling 147,603 units, and a 19.8% increase in light commercial vehicles, reaching 19,862 units. However, August 2026 saw a significant slowdown, with sales growing by only 0.9% compared to August 2025, and passenger car sales declining by 2.2% for the first time this year. Electrified vehicles are gaining traction, representing 17.45% of passenger car registrations by the end of August 2026, up from 10.94% in 2025.

Sales of electrified vehicles surged by 81%, with plug-in hybrids showing the most dramatic increase at 135.1%. Diesel's market share continues to decrease, falling to 63.85% from 71.77% in 2025, while gasoline vehicle sales are rising. Chinese brands have doubled their market share in passenger cars, reaching 11.6% by the end of August 2026, a 141.5% increase year-on-year.

In August alone, Chinese brands accounted for 15.2% of all passenger cars sold. Despite the August slowdown, the market remains above its record level of 2025, with AIVAM anticipating continued growth driven by fleet renewal, new Asian brands, financing solutions, and accelerating electrification.
