Beef companies shift lawsuit from Botswana Meat Commission to government officials over FMD restrictions
Beef companies JS Beef Pty Ltd and Primefast Pty Ltd have altered their legal action concerning Foot and Mouth Disease FMD restrictions. Initially suing the Botswana Meat Commission BMC, among others, the companies have now removed BMC as a respondent in their urgent court matter. They are now pursuing legal action against the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Kobedi Segale, the Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr Edwin Dikoloti, and the Attorney General, along with the Zone 12 Farmers Association, Botswana National Beef Producers Union, and Feedlotters Association. The companies, represented by South African FMD expert lawyer Advocate Reginald Willis, previously sought a court order to compel BMC to receive and slaughter their vaccinated feedlot cattle at full capacity, citing millions of pula at stake due to stranded animals.
