Marrakech museum offers cinematic journey across continents and generations

The program, which moves away from commercial circuits, highlights significant works from global cinematic heritage, divided into three thematic cycles: contemporary Indian cinema, classics for young audiences, and African creations. The Indian cinema cycle, curated by Indian actor, director, and producer Nikkhil Advani, aims to showcase a different side of Indian filmmaking beyond Bollywood musicals, featuring social dramas, auteur cinema, and formal experiments. Films like "Joji," "Udaan – Flight," and "Om-Dar-B-Dar" illustrate the diversity of Indian cinematography.

Wednesday mornings are dedicated to families and children, offering free screenings of classic world cinema, including "My Neighbor Totoro," "Azur & Asmar," and "Shrek," to introduce younger generations to influential films. The third segment, in partnership with the Al Maaden Museum of Contemporary African Art MACAAL, focuses on African cinematographies. This cycle, titled "Songs of Insolation, Memories in Light," explores individual and collective memories, legacies, and identities of the continent.

Since its inauguration in 2017, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech has expanded its activities to include exhibitions, photography, a specialized library, conferences, and cinema, establishing itself as a hub for ideas and artistic expression.
