President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah honors 1,001 Namibians with liberation and independence medals
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Tuesday conferred national honours on 1,001 Namibians for their contributions to the country鈥檚 liberation struggle, independence, and national development. At an investiture ceremony at Independence Stadium in Windhoek, President Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also commander-in-chief of the Namibian Defence Force, awarded liberation medals and certificates to 804 individuals. These recipients, including Presidency minister Charles Mubita, were recognized for their sacrifices, enduring imprisonment, torture, displacement, and separation from families. Additionally, 197 individuals, including former Namibian ambassador to China George Kaiyamo, received independence medals and certificates for their roles in Namibia鈥檚 independence and development. These honours, conferred under Article 323h of the Namibian Constitution, acknowledge contributions across various fields such as political and military service, diplomacy, humanitarian work, socioeconomic development, education, health, media, reconstruction, and the promotion of peace and justice.
