Explosive device kills one, injures two in Niamey; another young man found dead
An explosive device detonated in Niamey's Airport district on Saturday, August 29, 2023, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries. Nasir, approximately 20 years old, died instantly after he and two friends discovered and manipulated the device. His friend, Souleymane, reportedly died later under tragic circumstances, deeply affected by the incident. The two injured individuals were questioned by police before being hospitalized. Additionally, another young man, reportedly distraught by the events, was later found hanged from a tree in his compound. Nasir's uncle, Souley, confirmed the events to the Nigerian Press Agency ANP, stating they found Nasir dead upon arrival and that Souleymane subsequently passed away. The two deceased young men were buried at the Saga Muslim cemetery on the afternoon of August 29.
