Onion import ban lifted in Senegal

This decision follows several months of regulation aimed at promoting the sale of national production and protecting local producers' markets. The import ban, in effect since January 16, 2026, was intended to prioritize the marketing of local produce. With changes in domestic market availability, authorities decided to end the measure to ensure a regular and sufficient supply to the market.

The ministry believes this lifting should also help maintain price stability for consumers. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce urges importers to contact the Market Regulation Agency to implement this measure. Authorities also call on all stakeholders in the sector to demonstrate professionalism and responsibility.

The lifting of the ban marks a new phase in onion market regulation, with the dual objective of ensuring product availability and safeguarding the interests of producers and consumers.
