Libya's Central Bank Governor Naji Issa resigns, citing 'sensitivity' for his departure

He declined to specify the reasons for his departure, citing their "sensitivity." As of publication, neither the House of Representatives nor the High State Council had officially responded. Issa was appointed in October 2024 as a consensus choice following UN mediation between Libya's political entities.

During his tenure, he had pledged to reduce the black-market exchange rate of the US dollar against the Libyan Dinar to below LD 7.00. However, on the day of his resignation, the US dollar was trading on the black market at LD 9.30 per dollar.
