Tripoli International Airport slated for fourth quarter 2026 opening
Libya's Ministry of Transport has confirmed that the new Tripoli International Airport is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026. This information was revealed in a report detailing an expanded meeting chaired by Khaled Swesi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Air Transport Affairs. The meeting, held at the Ministry鈥檚 Tripoli headquarters, included representatives from the Libyan Internal Investment and Development Fund and airlines operating in Libya. Discussions focused on technical and operational requirements and coordinating participation in operational readiness activities for the airport. The original Tripoli International Airport was destroyed during militia fighting in 2014, and its reconstruction, initially by Italian companies, was expected to conclude in 2024. For months, Tripoli authorities had declined to confirm an opening date or provide updated construction photographs, with strict security measures preventing unauthorized access to the site.
