Julyana Free Zone advances 200,000-ton grain storage silos project
The Julyana Free Zone is continuing work on its 200,000-ton grain storage silos project at Berth No. 3. This initiative aims to establish a strategic reserve of essential commodities and grains, while also increasing the port's capacity for handling shipments. The project covers approximately 9 hectares and includes 20 cylindrical steel silos, each capable of holding 10,000 tons. Engineer Mohamed Abdel-Salam Ben Attia, General Manager of the Grain Silo Project, highlighted its national strategic importance for storing grains and essential commodities like wheat, barley, corn, and soybeans, thereby contributing to food security. The port is equipped with two Vigan grain suction and handling units, each with a capacity of about 600 tons per hour, for efficient unloading. Beyond the silos, the project involves constructing a 30/11 kV electrical substation, an administrative building, and a maintenance workshop. Upon completion, the project is anticipated to create 200 to 300 jobs in various sectors. Construction is progressing steadily, with completion expected within a year.
