Libya's fuel shortage: nearly 7,000 trucks supplied with diesel in four days
The Tripoli-based Security Directorates Support Unit reported that fuel stations under its supervision supplied diesel to nearly 7,000 trucks between August 21 and 24. The unit stated that 24-hour supervision at five stations helped alleviate the trucking crisis, including mobile filling points established by Brega Petroleum Marketing Company. Reports indicate that long truck queues have disappeared. It is anticipated that these measures will ease the fuel crisis, especially as Brega, a subsidiary of the National Oil Corporation responsible for importing and distributing fuel, continues to report the arrival of fuel tankers across Libya. This improved diesel supply is expected to positively impact households, businesses, and industries that depend on diesel for generators, potentially easing black-market prices. The price of subsidized diesel, nominally LD 0.15/litre from Brega, had recently surged to LD 8.00/litre on the black market, up from the long-standing black-market rate of around LD 1.80-2.00/litre.
