Libyan Prime Minister Aldabaiba instructs GECOL on fair load shedding amid power crisis
Libyan Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba has directed the General Electricity Company of Libya GECOL to implement load shedding equitably across all regions. This directive comes after a summer marked by prolonged power cuts, blackouts, and public unrest, including violent demonstrations and fuel shortages. Complaints had arisen that electricity distribution was influenced by tribal, regional, or political affiliations. The Prime Minister specified that health facilities and oil sites should be exempt from load shedding. Additionally, he instructed GECOL to establish dedicated phone numbers for citizens to report grid malfunctions and submit complaints.
