Libya launches first phase of Western Border Security Project in Al-Assah region

This initiative, in cooperation with the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya EUBAM, involved a field visit to the Al-Assah border security sector, located in the northern Libyan-Tunisian border area. The project includes the installation of a visual and thermal surveillance system with modern cameras and technologies to provide round-the-clock monitoring, enhance early detection capabilities, and improve security readiness. This first phase covers approximately 200 kilometers of the border strip, aiming to upgrade electronic surveillance and support the Border Guard Agency's efforts against smuggling, illegal migration, and trans-border crime.

This development follows an announcement on July 20 by the Hafter-controlled eastern-based army, which signed a contract with a Turkish company for a similar project to manage and monitor 275 kilometers of Libya's eastern border in its first phase.
