Majority Chief Whip criticizes arrests for insulting political leaders
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has voiced his disappointment regarding recent arrests of individuals accused of insulting political leaders and government officials. Speaking on TV3 on August 8, 2026, Dafeamekpor stated his personal opposition to such arrests, arguing that insults, while unfortunate, do not harm the government. He noted that these arrests are often initiated by the Police rather than sanctioned by the government and expressed concern that they could ultimately be detrimental to the government's image. He emphasized that people should be allowed to express themselves.
