Lagos State adviser highlights economic and environmental benefits of clean cooking initiative

Speaking at an event organized by Greenplinth Africa Ltd, Oshodi described the initiative as one of Africa's most ambitious clean energy projects, noting growing international interest. She emphasized that clean cooking is a climate solution, a health intervention, a gender empowerment strategy, an economic inclusion mechanism, and a pathway to sustainable development. Pilot projects in Makoko, Lagos, demonstrated a dramatic reduction in daily firewood consumption from 10 kilograms to approximately 1.37 kilograms.

The initiative also offers opportunities in climate finance, carbon markets, local manufacturing, women's empowerment, and green enterprise development. Alhaji Ibrahim Jubril, Emir of Nasarawa and President of the Nasarawa Emirate Council, and former Minister of State for Environment, stressed that climate interventions must be adapted to local realities. Babatunde Aina, Group Financial Officer of Greenplinth Africa Ltd, explained that the cookstoves would be distributed free of charge under a structured lease agreement, not as a handout.
