APC women urge First Lady Remi Tinubu to advocate for increased female political representation
Women members of the All Progressives Congress APC have appealed to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu to champion greater political inclusion for women in elective and appointive positions across Nigeria. They highlighted that despite significant participation in political activities, women remain under-represented in decision-making roles. The call was made during a medical and food relief outreach organized by the Faleke Women Movement for Renewed Hope in Lagos State, which benefited over 1,000 residents. Hajia Asmau Ohikere, National Women Leader of the Faleke Women Movement for Renewed Hope, stated that increased female representation would ensure issues affecting women, children, and families receive more attention in policymaking. She urged the First Lady to use her influence to create more opportunities for women in politics and to engage governors, ministers, and state leaders on the issue. Zainab Ogundana, President of the Faleke Women Movement for Renewed Hope, commended President Tinubu for women's inclusion but demanded a minimum of 30 percent representation, expressing hope for 40 percent in a potential second term. Fatima Nanakeme, Convener and BOT chairman of the movement, also called for greater inclusion and encouraged women to actively participate and vote in upcoming elections to secure the promised representation.
