Kwara community seeks President Tinubu's intervention over persistent bandit attacks

In an open letter, the community, through the Secretary of the Lata Nna Youth Association, Tauheed Desco, accused the Federal Government of failing to address repeated incidents of kidnappings, armed robberies, extortion, and farm invasions over the past two years. Recent attacks have escalated, including a violent confrontation in August 2025 that reportedly left 65 local hunters dead, the killing of a farmer on April 15, and a daylight invasion on June 13 by four armed bandits. On June 26, bandits blocked the only access road, leading to the deaths of two residents, and on July 10, they looted homes, shops, and stole four motorcycles.

A Point-of-Sale operator was also robbed on July 15. The Village Head of Lata Nna, Alhaji Mohammed Lata, stated that about 95 percent of residents have fled, and highlighted issues such as lack of mobile telecommunications services and healthcare facilities. The community requests immediate deployment of security personnel, securing the access road, sustained operations to clear bandits, and support for victims' families.
