Tripoli hosts Italian Design Day 2026 focusing on sustainable urban development and cultural cooperation
Tripoli recently hosted the Italian Design Day 2026, an event organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Trade Agency ITA, and the OpportunItaly Initiative, in collaboration with the Libyan Architecture Authority. The event gathered Libyan and Italian architects, designers, and academics to discuss "Design, Sustainability, and Urban Identity: Redesigning, Renewing Spaces, Objects, Ideas, and Relationships." This theme aimed to foster dialogue on the future of cities and the role of design in sustainable development. A publication titled "The Path of Italian Architecture in Tripoli: From Eclecticism to Rationalism," supported by the Italian Embassy in Libya, was presented, documenting architectural landmarks from the early 20th century and exploring the evolution of Italian architectural influence in Tripoli. Ghaleb Al-Giblawi, General Manager of ADD Exhibitions and Conferences, stated that the event highlights growing interest in using design and architecture for cultural dialogue and strengthening cooperation between Libya and Italy. He emphasized Tripoli's rich architectural heritage, a blend of civilizations, and the importance of preserving and developing it to support the city's urban identity and create investment opportunities.
