Teacher serves 10 years of 25-year sentence before DNA test clears him in student rape case
A video shared online on August 7, 2026, features a prison officer detailing the case of a teacher in Sunyani who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for allegedly raping and impregnating a student. The teacher consistently denied the accusation and appealed his conviction after his case was dismissed by the High Court and Court of Appeal. After serving 10 years of his sentence, the teacher secured a hearing at the Supreme Court. During the Supreme Court proceedings, a DNA test was conducted, which revealed that the child was not fathered by the teacher, thereby exonerating him from the alleged crime.
