Kenneth Gilbert Adjei nominated as Ghana's Defence Minister
President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Minister for Defence, marking his return to a portfolio he previously held as Deputy Minister for Defence between 2015 and 2016. Adjei, who was Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, will take over from the late Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, who died in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson had been supervising the Defence Ministry in an acting capacity for nearly a year. Adjei holds a Master of Arts degree in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, along with an Executive MBA from the University of Ghana. His nomination, subject to parliamentary approval, comes amid regional security concerns and efforts to strengthen the Ghana Armed Forces.
