Kwara government encourages youth to pursue entrepreneurship and skill acquisition beyond white-collar jobs
The Kwara State Government, through Commissioner for Youth Development Ndanusa Shehu, is urging young people to prioritize skill acquisition and entrepreneurship over solely seeking white-collar employment. Speaking in Ilorin, Shehu highlighted the limited availability of traditional jobs and emphasized the need for youths to acquire marketable skills to become self-reliant and create jobs for others. He stated that the government is committed to engaging youths and collaborating with stakeholders to expand development opportunities. The Ministry of Youth Development is partnering with various organizations, including the National Stored Products Research Institute and the Central Bank of Nigeria, on youth development and agribusiness initiatives. Shehu also pointed out opportunities in the agricultural value chain beyond land ownership, such as processing, packaging, and logistics. Additionally, he mentioned government projects like stadium rehabilitation and construction to support youth engagement and sports development, and highlighted the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme for graduate work experience. He encouraged community and faith-based organizations to mentor youths and help them develop values for meaningful ventures.
