Dakar Arena to host fourth window of FIBA 2027 World Cup qualifiers
The Dakar Arena will host the fourth window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 qualifiers from August 27 to 30, 2026. This event is a crucial step for teams aiming to qualify for the global tournament scheduled to take place in Qatar from August 27 to September 12, 2027. The Senegalese basketball team, known as the Lions, led by coach Ngagne Desagana Diop, will participate to represent their nation. During the third window of qualifiers, held from July 2 to 5 at Stadium Marius Ndiaye, the team achieved an undefeated record, securing victories against Madagascar, Ivory Coast, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, thereby strengthening their qualification prospects for FIBA 2027. Hosting this competition in Dakar provides an opportunity for Senegal to demonstrate its commitment to sports and promote basketball in the region. FIBA selected the Dakar Arena due to its capacity to accommodate large-scale events, confirming Senegal's position as a key player in African basketball.
