DCI arrests six, rescues three Indian nationals in Kiambu human trafficking case
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI Operations Support Unit has arrested six suspects and rescued three Indian nationals in a suspected human trafficking operation in Ruiru, Kiambu county. The arrests were made on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, following intelligence-led investigations. The three Indian nationals, who arrived in Kenya on August 5, 2026, were found held in a two-bedroom house in Ruiru's Fort Jesus area. They had been cleared at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA and then transported by taxi to the house, where they were allegedly held without communication. The suspects taken into custody include Avtar Singh, an Indian national; Ali Khashif and Syed Shujaat Hussein, both Pakistani nationals; and Stephen Karomo and Damaris Katulu Daudi, both Kenyan citizens. A Kenyan minor working as a house help was also found at the premises. The suspects claimed they were facilitating the Indian nationals' travel to Italy via Ethiopia. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the suspects' activities, identify accomplices, and ascertain any links to a broader human trafficking network. All six suspects are being processed for arraignment.
