Namibian street dancer Xallamo Gariseb to represent country at international competition
Namibian street dancer Xallamo Gariseb, known as 'Xallamo', has been crowned Namibia's first representative at the Red Bull 'Dance Your Style' World Final in Z眉rich, Switzerland. This marks a significant shift for street dance in Namibia, which has historically lacked formal backing for international exposure. The local edition of the competition, which began with a workshop on August 2, culminated in a national final on August 22. The 'Dance Your Style' format features one-on-one battles where dancers improvise to unpredictable music genres, with the crowd serving as judges. Xallamo, 29, emerged victorious from a field of approximately 80 entrants and will now compete against national champions globally on October 24. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase his passion on a global stage. EMjay the MC, who hosted the event, and Brand X events coordinator Helena Ngaifiwa both highlighted the initiative's importance in recognizing and elevating Namibian street dance talent and providing a pathway to international exposure.
