
Former West Brom midfielder Quevin Castro dies at 25 after collapsing during match in Portugal
Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a pre-season friendly in Portugal. Castro was playing for Portuguese side Real Sport Clube against Estrela da Amadora when he collapsed in the first half. He was treated by medical staff and taken to a hospital, where he later died. The Lisbon Football Association confirmed his death, and Real Sport Clube described him as an integral member of their family. West Brom expressed devastation and will honor Castro with a period of applause in the 25th minute and black armbands during Sunday's match against Burnley. Castro joined West Brom in 2021, making his first-team debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and a Championship appearance against Swansea City. He had loan spells with Burton Albion, Notts County, and Gateshead before joining York City in 2023 and later returning to Portugal. His former clubs and colleagues have paid tribute, with Estrela da Amadora offering condolences. The cause of death has not been officially disclosed.
