Jakob Ingebrigtsen secures seventh European athletics gold in 5,000m race

He completed the race in 13 minutes, 15.29 seconds, ahead of Germany’s Florian Bremm and France’s Etienne Daguinos. This victory solidifies his position as the most successful male athlete in European history. Ingebrigtsen has been undefeated at the European championships since 2018, when he won the 1,500m and 5,000m double at the age of 17.

He repeated this double in 2022 and 2024. This was Ingebrigtsen's first competition of the season following an Achilles tendon injury that required surgery. Despite this, he displayed strong form, executing a perfectly timed finish to pass Bremm in the final meters.

Other competitors, including bronze medalist Daguinos and fourth-place finisher Gressier, acknowledged Ingebrigtsen's legendary status and strength in the sport.
