US strikes Iran, Tehran targets Arab states; Iranian Red Crescent reports five killed at wedding
The United States conducted strikes against targets in Iran on September 1, including air-defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities, and communications sites. This action prompted retaliation from Tehran, which launched missile and drone attacks against US positions and other sites across the region. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that a US strike in southern Iran hit a home during a wedding celebration, resulting in five deaths, including a child, and over 50 injuries. US Central Command CENTCOM acknowledged these reports but stated that the US military does not target civilians. Iran's response included targeting US positions and facilities in several Arab countries, such as Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, and Bahrain. Kuwait's military reported its air defenses were responding to attacks, while Bahrain's defense force intercepted Iranian aerial threats. Jordan's military intercepted 10 Iranian missiles, with three landing in unpopulated areas. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps IRGC also claimed to have destroyed a maintenance center, technical equipment warehouses, and a surveillance-balloon guidance system at US military bases in Erbil, Iraq.
