Maresca's Manchester City secures late win, Iraola's Liverpool draws in Premier League openers
Enzo Maresca began his tenure as Manchester City manager with a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, while Andoni Iraola's Liverpool secured a 2-2 draw against Newcastle in their respective Premier League debuts. Bournemouth took the lead through Marcus Tavernier, but City equalized with a header from Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol scored the winner in stoppage time, both assisted by Rayan Cherki. Meanwhile, Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai scored a penalty in the final moments to salvage a draw after Newcastle had led twice through Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock. Separately, Brighton defeated Aston Villa 4-0, with Jack Hinshelwood scoring twice, amid Villa's player departures and transfer speculation.
