International Day of Quran recitation launches under patronage of Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam

Organized by the General Administration for Quranic Affairs at Al-Azhar Institutes, the event saw broad participation from Egypt and around the world, bringing together hundreds of thousands of Quran reciters. Sheikh Ayman Abdel-Ghani, Chief Deputy of Al-Azhar, highlighted the initiative as an opportunity to renew connection with the Holy Quran and unite families. Dr. Ahmed El-Sharkawy, Head of Al-Azhar Institutes Sector, noted that the event culminates efforts to encourage Quran memorization and recitation among young people.

Dr. Abu El-Yazid Salama, Head of the Central Administration for Educational Affairs in Al-Azhar Institutes Sector, mentioned the comprehensive plan developed to facilitate participation. This year's edition expanded its scope, welcoming reciters from Al-Azhar institutes and branches of the World Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates. It also featured coordination with the Ministry of Religious Endowments, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta, and various civil society organizations.

The initiative has grown significantly, from approximately 6,000 participants in its first edition to over 100,000 in its second, demonstrating Al-Azhar’s role in serving the Holy Quran.
