Inter Milan begins Serie A title defense with a dominant 4-1 victory over Monza

Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring for Inter in the sixth minute. Monza equalized through Gustavo Varela in the 29th minute, but Inter regained the lead shortly after halftime with Piotr Zielinski scoring in the 48th minute. Pio Esposito extended Inter's lead to 3-1 eight minutes later with a backheel finish from Andy Diouf's cross, and Yann Bisseck completed the scoring in the 63rd minute.

John Stones, an England international, made his debut as a late substitute. Napoli, last season's runners-up, are scheduled to play Genoa later under new coach Massimiliano Allegri, while Milan and Juventus will begin their league seasons on Sunday against Torino and Frosinone, respectively.
