Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence outlines five-year strategy to end insecurity
Bello Matawalle, Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence, expressed confidence that insecurity in the country will soon be overcome. Speaking in Kano during a condolence visit following a bandit attack, Matawalle stated that the Federal Government is intensifying security operations and planning to restore lasting peace. He highlighted the government's approach, which combines proactive security operations, strategic planning, and stronger collaboration with state governments. President Bola Tinubu's administration has established a committee to formulate a five-year defence and security strategy to address threats long-term. Matawalle noted a joint operation by security forces, led by Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, Commander of the 3 Brigade, Kano, which rescued kidnapped victims around the Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam LGA. He commended the troops and affirmed the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening the operational capabilities of the armed forces. Matawalle emphasized the need for sustained cooperation among federal, state, and local governments, as well as citizen participation, to defeat insecurity. He pledged additional Federal Government support, including fighting vehicles and weapons, for Kano State and held a closed-door meeting with security commanders. Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, thanked Matawalle and reaffirmed the state government's commitment to working with the Federal Government to improve security.
