Nigeria records 1,035 Lassa fever cases and 252 deaths, NCDC reports

These latest cases were identified in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, and Benue states. The cumulative death toll has reached 252, resulting in a case fatality rate of 24.4 percent, which is higher than the 18.6 percent recorded in 2025. In week 32, there were four reported cases, with cumulative infections at 1,021 and 240 deaths.

By week 33, 23 states across 117 local government areas had reported at least one confirmed Lassa fever case. Bauchi, Ondo, Taraba, Benue, and Edo states account for 87 percent of all confirmed cases cumulatively by week 33. Individuals aged 21 to 30 years continue to be the most affected age group.

No new healthcare worker infections were recorded in weeks 32 and 33. The NCDC stated it will continue surveillance and response activities due to Lassa fever's ongoing public health concern.
