Sokoto donates N100m, food items to victims of banditry and boat accident
The Sokoto State Government has donated over N100m and 408 bags of assorted food items to families affected by bandit attacks and a recent boat accident in Wurno and Goronyo Local Government Areas. A government delegation, led by state APC leader and former governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, visited the affected communities to condole with the victims' families. Families of the seven persons killed in a bandit attack in Dinawa received N1m each, along with food items. Five injured victims received N250,000 each and food. In Birjingo, families of three deceased persons received N1m each and food, while six injured persons received N250,000 each and food. At Gorau, where 65 people died in a boat mishap, each bereaved family received N1m and food items. Wamakko, representing Governor Ahmed Aliyu, expressed grief and assured continued government support for security agencies, citing the provision of 62 armored vehicles. He urged rural communities to cooperate with security agencies and called for prayers. The governor also directed an immediate stop to boat overloading, tasking local government authorities and district heads to enforce this measure. The delegation also visited Tsamaye to condole with residents over the death of the local APC chairman, Alhaji Amadu Malale. The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, and the Chairman of Sabon Birni LGA, Hashimu Dantudu, commended the state government's intervention.
