
EDB outlines 28 priorities for "Building a Future-Ready Mauritius" 2026-27 vision
The Economic Development Board EDB approved a strategic plan for 2026-27, encompassing over 200 actions across 28 priority initiatives. This plan aims to boost investments, strengthen exports, improve the business climate, and position Mauritius as a modern, competitive economy. Key objectives for the fiscal year 2026-27 include attracting between Rs 38 and Rs 40 billion in foreign direct investments, mobilizing Rs 125 billion from the private sector, increasing goods and services exports beyond Rs 495 billion, and ranking Mauritius among the top ten economies in the World Bank's future B-READY report. To achieve these goals, the EDB will focus on improving the investment climate, accelerating digital transformation, strengthening environmental, social, and governance practices, and enhancing regulatory predictability. Strategic sectors targeted for growth include financial services, the blue economy, food security, agro-industry, life sciences, healthcare, the digital economy, and high-tech manufacturing. The EDB also plans to increase its international presence, participate in major events like the US-Africa Business Summit in Mauritius, and launch an E-Diaspora Platform to engage Mauritian professionals abroad. The board acknowledged reforms from the Finance Act 2026 and the Economic and Financial Measures Act 2026, covering taxation, investment facilitation, clinical trials, student work permits, FinTech governance, and the new AI City Scheme.
